In the fading sky last night
to the east as the setting sun
dropped behind us in the west
we saw four knitting squares
stationed above the tree line
at odd angles, slightly askew
(to be sure they were clouds
but knitting squares, nonetheless).
And who placed them there
in the eastern sky above the trees
after sunset for us to watch
as they faded away?
